Obituary

Edward C. Heitger, 90, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Mishawaka, passed away after an illness at 7:45 AM, Monday, March 23, 2015, in his home.

Mr. Heitger was born on August 21, 1924 in South Bend. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist from 1943-1946 and then lived the majority of his life in the South Bend-Mishawaka area, moving to Sun City Center, Florida in 1985 and Georgetown, Texas in 2005. He was an owner of Bowman Automotive Parts in Mishawaka. He was married on October 21, 1944, in the South Bend Second Church of the Brethren, to Lois P. Feldman. These high school sweethearts were married 53 years.

He was married on June 19, 1999, in the Sun City Center United Methodist Church, to Lois Parnell, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Craig Heitger of South Bend; a grandson, Thomas Heitger (Susannah) of Chicago; a great grand-daughter, Natalia Rosalie Karls Heitger of Chicago; a brother, Mel Heitger (Audrey) of Glendale, Arizona; a sister, Linda Riddle (James) of Mishawaka; nieces Rae Ann Townsend of Kent, Washington, Kim DelRegno (David), and Lisa Kelly of Mishawaka; and nephew Rob Riddle (Angie) of Granger. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois P. Heitger in 1997; a son, Michael Lynn Heitger in 1968; a nephew Guy Aaron Heitger; and his parents, Edward Charles Sr. and Mildred Morningstar Heitger.

Mr. Heitger was very active in church activities in Mishawaka, Sun City Center, and Georgetown. He loved serving people and drove the tour bus in Florida for King's Point in the Sun City Center community. He very much enjoyed golfing. Mass of Christian Resurrection will be celebrated at 12:00 Friday, June 19 in St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, where friends may call one hour prior to Mass. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements through Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy.
