Obituary

Rev. Edward Scott, 83, of Elkhart, gained eternal rest on Sunday, June 22, 2014 in the comforts of his home. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Many affectionately knew Rev. Scott as "Doc". He was born December 5, 1930 in Memphis TN to (the late) John and Elizabeth (William) Scott. On September 25, 1954 Edward was joined in Holy Matrimony to Lonnie M. Bobo in Jonesboro, AR and his cherished wife of 59 years Lonnie M. Scott, survives. Edward leaves a legacy of eight children; Lougine Scott of Los Angeles CA, Irma L. (Calvin) Jackson of Glenwood IL, John (Tonya) Scott of Oak Forest IL, Eleanor M. Carver, Elaine Scott and Joseph W. Scott, all of Elkhart, David Scott (deceased) and Robert M. Scott of Oakland CA; fourteen grandchildren, Diallo Scott of Los Angeles, James E. Scott III of Elkhart, Lamard Raven of Los Angeles, Leia Williams of South Bend, Travis Scott of Rowlette TX, Jeannine Scott of Chicago IL, Rhecia Harris of Elkhart, Jonathon Scott of Chicago, Maya Scott of Rowlette, Joshua Scott of Oak Forest, Jasmine Scott of Oak Forest, Sydney Scott of Oakland, Jada Scott of San Francisco CA and Dallas Scott of Oakland; five great-grandchildren, Diallo Scott II of Los Angeles, Dayton Teague of Elkhart, Devin Scott of Elkhart, Jaylen Leonard of South Bend and Jania Scott of Chicago. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Garland (Ora Lee) Bobo of Osceola AR and his sisters-in-law, Cordie Murphy of Fredericksburg VA, Mary Douglas of Rantoul IL, Wanda Washington and Leona (Leroy) Tate, both of Gosnell AR, and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his son David, he was also preceded in death by his step-brother, Joshua Murphy; brothers-in-law, Virgil Bobo and Leon Poe and his sister-in-law, Rosietta Agee. Rev. Scott enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after serving as a frontline foot soldier in the Korean War. He relocated from Ohio to Elkhart in 1969; shortly after his arrival he became associated with Canaan Baptist Church. He also began working at Ventline Industries where he retired after 25 years there. In 1972 he established Bible Baptist Missionary Church along with his good friend and cofounder, Brother Joe Belew. He attended the Central Baptist Seminary School. Later, he was a dedicated associate minister at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and served there from 1982 until present. He was also a member of the male chorus and Brotherhood auxiliaries. Reverend Scott was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the games. He was a kind-hearted man, full of jokes & laughter; one rarely caught him without a smile. He had the power of bringing amusement and joy to everyone around him. He was a family man (to say the least) who enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, his children & his grandchildren. He was also a Godly man, putting the Lord at the head of his life. On Friday June 27, 2014, visitation will be held two hours prior to the 11:00am Celebration of Life Service at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church at 802 W. Garfield Ave. in Elkhart, Indiana. The Reverend Sam Frison will officiate. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with military honors. Condolences may also be given by visiting www.chapelhillmemorial.com.
