Elizabeth V. Houghton, 93, passed away peacefully in her home on Oct. 12, 2015 in Mishawaka. She was the daughter of George and Elizabeth Rojics. On May 29, 1943 she was wed to Charles F. Houghton. He preceded her in death on March 22, 2001. Betty worked as a cook and housekeeper to the resident priests at the Provincial House for many years. She was a legendary cook, birdwatcher, and fisherwoman. She loved spending time at the family lake cottage fishing with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be missed greatly. Betty is survived by her five children: Jon (Suzan) Houghton, Betty (Joseph) Piatkowski, Cynthia Houghton, Craig (Tamara) Houghton, and Ellen (Roger Piley) Houghton, and eight grandchildren: Charles Piatkowski, Eric Houghton, Beth Ann Gerstbauer, Todd Houghton, Erin Wells, Rose Johnson, Grace Johnson and Nathan Sechrist. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A gathering of family and friends will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola IN. 46561 from 10:00 - 11:00am Friday Oct. 16th with a funeral service starting at 11:00am with Rev. Bob Vale officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
