Ellar C. Groning, 99, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on December 5, 2023, in Elkhart, IN. Ella was born on September 10, 1924, in Arkansas, the daughter of the late Hubert C. and Snodie M. (Eastep) Lax. On September 10, 1949, she married Hubert Groning in Arkansas. They moved to Mishawaka in 1949. She is survived by a son, Jack Groning of Seattle, WA; son-in-law Dennis Kendle of Edwardsburg, MI; four grandchildren, Carissa Yanders, Nicole Ingle, Rex Kendle, and Tyler Kendle; and a host of great- as well as great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Hershel "Buddy" Lax, Carroll Gould, and Andrew Morgan; one daughter, Janet Kendle; and her beloved husband. Her family finds peace in knowing that Ella and Hubert are finally reunited for eternity. Ella was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked at the South Bend Toy Factory for some time. She is remembered for her affinity and tender care for all living things, from the chickens and cats on her farm to the squirrels and birds who always knew to find a meal at her windows. A small private service will be held for the family.
