Emily June "Junebug" Calkins, 75, of Elkhart, passed away at 12:30 pm, Wednesday, February 3, 2010. She was born on June 15, 1934 in Sparlingville, MI to the late Alex and Emily M. (Hazen) Van Thornout. She is survived by four children, Linda (Roger) Whitmer, Victor (Cyndi) Calkins, Crystal Heerschop, and Bryan Calkins, all of Elkhart; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mable Wolfe of North Vincent, MI and two sister in laws, Virginia Van Thornout of Port Huron, MI and Patricia Calkins of Ashville, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Calkins, grandson, Roger A. Whitmer, II, sister, Dorothy Van Thornout and two brothers, David and Sonny Van Thornout. Junebug worked as a cook for many years at the Waterfall Restaurant in Elkhart and Lunker''s, before retiring. She loved to bowl and was on many summer leagues. She will be remembered for crocheting blankets. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm, Sunday, February 7, 2010 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, February 8, 2010 in Northside Baptist Church, 53198 County Road 9, Elkhart, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Pastor Carl Henry will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
