Obituary

Emma L. Nard, 88, of Mishawaka, died Sunday May 1, 2011 at Michiana Health & Rehabilitation Center. Emma was born on February 16, 1923 in Florence, Alabama to John and Jimmie Lou (Daniels) Jackson. Emma married Earl L. Nard, who preceded her in death in 1981. Emma was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family, quilting, babies, animals, Gospel music & gardening. A member of Southside General Baptist Church, she was active in Women''s Ministries and taught Sunday School. As a faithful woman of God, she knew what it meant to live life for the good of others. Family & friends will always remember her as a woman of impeccable character, alwyas reaching out to those around her with genuine love and compassion. Never one to complain, you would be welcomed into Emma's home with a tender smile, graceful heart, and extremely delicious southern cooking. She leaves behind a rich legacy of faith in God and love for family, both of which will never fade away. Emma is survived by her daughter, Glenda (Bob) Frederick of White Pigeon, MI; daughter, Wanda (Jim) McClish of Osceola, son, Larry (Jan) Nard of South Bend, daughter, Jo Ann (Pat) McCullough of White Pigeon, Tammy (Alex Smith) of Mishawaka; her grandchildren, Greg (Gina) Frederick, Danny (Karen) Frederick, Brenda (Rick) Johnson, Brian McClish, Beth Ann (Elvis) Evans, Belinda (Bill) Dean, Larry Nard, Shawn Nard, Jason Wilbanks, Kris Wilbanks, Sarah Wilbanks, Patrick McCullough, Ryan (Nicole) McCullough; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; her very special & dear friend, Jamae Lacy and her entire church family . In addition to her parents and husband, Emma was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rita Nard Bice, sisters, Alma Jackson, Clura Angel, Susie Darby and brothers, Earl Jackson and Calvin Jackson. Funeral Services 12:00 Thursday May 5, 2011 at Southside General Baptist Church, 1615 S. Spring Street, Mishawaka, with calling at church one hour prior to services. Calling also Wednesday 4-8pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family''s preferred memorials are Southside General Baptist Church Building Fund or the Logan Center. The family would also like to express sincere gratitude to the staff of Michiana Health & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they provided. Emma will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but it is no secret that Heaven is sweeter with her there.
