Ermon A. White, age 81, of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Granger, Indiana, passed away at the Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Alabama on Sunday, August 30, 2009 following a brief illness.
Ermon was born December 30, 1927 in DeKalb County, Alabama to the late Elmer and Hattie (Hicks) White. On December 20, 1952 Ermon was united in marriage to Nellie Daniel.
Nellie survives, along with their two children, Rodney D. White and his wife Cindy of Wilsonville, Alabama, and Rhonda Malone and her husband Tony of South Bend, Indiana. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Brian (Navy-active), Daniel (Navy-active) and Derik Malone (Navy-veteran), Christopher White, Erin White-Strang, Amanda Chase and Nick Kirchner, as well as 9 great-grandchildren. Surviving as well are his three sisters; Grace Henderson, Molene Smothers and Willow Dean Keel. Four brothers preceded Ermon in passing away, RJ White (WWII KIA), Gordon White (Navy veteran), Rufus White and Noel White.
Services will be private. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Ermon served his country during the post World War II era in the U.S. Army, and later in the U.S. Air Force. He spent time in Germany as a M.P. in the U.S. Army and later at Thule Air Base in Greenland while in the U.S. Air Force before his honorable discharge. Mr. White was employed for many years with the Bendix Corporation in South Bend. He was employed by the Aerospace Division where he calibrated afterburners for the F-14 & F-16 Military aircraft. Ermon retired from Bendix in 1993. He enjoyed working in his lawn, and took great pride in his landscaping at his house. In his memory, donations may be given to Alzheimer''s research.
