Esther Mae Roys-Van Dyke passed away July 4th after a short illness in Venice, FL. She was born on Dec. 31, 1925 and was a lifelong South Bend resident of the Keller Park Neighborhood. She married the late Thomas L. Van Dyke in 1946 and is survived by her son, Thomas L. Van Dyke, Jr. and his wife, Dawn E. Spakowski. Esther has two grandchildren by her daughter-in-law, Lauren J. Van Dyke: Jill L. Van Dyke of Clearwater, FL and Jeffrey T. Van Dyke of St Petersburg, FL. She leaves a brother-in-law, Avery L. Van Dyke of Mishawaka, another Robert L. De Wells of Vicksburg, MI and a sister-in-law, Mary E. Teeter-Roys of Little Rock, AR. She loved her many nieces and nephews. She went to Adams H.S., attended Protestant churches and later met her husband while working for Bendix during World War II. They lived on a farm in Claypool, IN, later moving to Blyler Place. Esther enjoyed trying and sharing new food recipes, gardening, fishing, boating and lake life, as they owned a cottage on Indian Lake for 30 yrs. She was interested in history, proud owner of a collection of reference books and was the Brown School Historian. She was a neighborhood "front porch" type of person and known to be a good listener, with a great vocabulary and a kidder with her wry sense of humor. There will be a grave site ceremony at 11 am on Tuesday, July 16 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola where she will be laid to rest next to her "Dear Sweet Boy" of 49 yrs.
