Eugene "Gene" D. Allen, age 80, of Elkhart passed away on December 29, 2017 at 12:00 PM in the Elkhart Hospice House in Elkhart. He was born May 29, 1937 to Denver and Bertha (Sullivan) Allen in Mohawk, West Virginia. After graduating from Elkhart Central High School in 1956, Gene enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably from 1960 to 1962. During his service, he served as 4th Class in the 6th armored division and as a Surveyor stationed in Germany. Gene shared his life with his loving companion, Kathleen Ralston. Mr. Allen worked as a Production Manager in different companies during his working career. Gene had a passion and love for restoring classic cars. Gene is survived by his loving companion of 36 years, Kathy; his grandchildren, Brianne Allen of Bristol and Danielle Allen of Kendallville; His great-granddaughter, Alicia Allen of Bristol; sister, Patricia (Bob) DeWeese of Springhill, FL; nephew, Kirk DeWeese of Galveston, IN; his step -children, Lori (Jeff) Stewart of Elkhart and Dennis (Laura) Ralston of Granger; and his step-grandchildren, Steven Fields, Hannah Ralston, and Justin Ralston. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny Allen; siblings, Benny Allen and Betty Searer. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 12-2 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 with the funeral service beginning at 2 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow with military honors in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
