Eugene Leroy Silvers, Sr., 81, of Mishawaka, passed away at 6:55 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2014 in his daughter''s home, surrounded by loving family. Eugene was born on May 4, 1932, the son of the late Eldon and Olive M. (Welker) Silvers. Eugene is survived by eight children, Eugene (Liz) Silvers, Jr. of Woodstock, IL, Kate (John) Gende of Princeton, WI, Deb (Jim) Sardi of Osceola, Don (Anna) Silvers of Osceola, Judy (Rick) Sutton of Elkhart, Donna Silvers of South Bend, Steve (Tracy) Silvers of Mishawaka and Loretta (Mike) Kazmierczak of Mishawaka. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and one brother, Charles Silvers of Sun City, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Jim Silver, first wife, Loretta Johnson and second wife, Rosemond B. Silvers. He was a musician and played for many years locally. He was in such bands as the "Jim Deka Trio" and the "Polka Nuts". He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, enjoyed playing cards and bowling. He also loved to play golf, and earned the nickname "Swampy" while playing. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial be made to the Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Parkway, Suite 210, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
