Mr. Fern A. Jones, age 62, of Elkhart, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014. Fern was born June 16, 1952 to the late William L. and M. Emogene (Coffey) Jones. On December 23, 1988 he married the former Ms. Debbie Adkins in Mishawaka, Indiana.
Survivors include his wife Debbie Jones of Osceola, a son, Craig A. Jones of Elkhart, a daughter, Stacey (Michael) Reiter of Elkhart and his grandson Skylar Lay. Also surviving are his siblings, James Randall (Lois) Jones of Albuquerque, NM, David L. (Marybeth) Jones of Osceola, Mark D. Jones of N. Hollywood, CA, John S. Jones of Scranton, PA, Amon J. (Connie) Jones of Elkhart, Martha R. (Willy) Shaw of N. Liberty, IN, Elizabeth A. Jones of South Bend, Mary E. (Duane) Smith of Mishawaka, Nancy G. Matlock of Elkhart and Jacob L. (Mary Ann) Jones of Elkhart.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 1:30 pm funeral service on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Fern was a graduate of Penn High School, class of 1970. He worked at Schultz Warehouse and later as a truck driver for the Elkhart County Highway Department for over 32 years before retiring in 2012.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, and adored his dogs and cat. He also loved to cook out on the grill for his family and friends. Fern loved football and all motor sports, especially NASCAR. He was also an avid fan of Dodge Trucks. In his younger days, he coached softball for 15 years. His mischievous nature and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
