Floyd Walters, age 82, of Elkhart, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Greenleaf Manor Nursing Home in Elkhart of natural causes. Floyd was born December 28, 1926 to the late Marvin and Mildred (Scott) Walters in Waukegan, Illinois. On March 11, 1961, Floyd was united in marriage to the former Ms. Viola Anna Vargo in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Surviving is his wife, Viola Anna Walters of Elkhart; his sons, Marvin (Kathy) Walters of Mishawaka, Indiana, Floyd (Val) Walters Jr. of South Lyons, Michigan, and John (Lynn) Walters of Bartow, Florida and his daughters, Gwendolyn "Gwenny" (Andy) Bennett of Mishawaka, and Gail (Joe) Bailey of Bristol. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by his daughter, Aletha Paluzzi, and his siblings.
There will be no visitation, and services will be private. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Floyd was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed by Preston Truck Lines for many years as a mechanic until his retirement to Englewood, Florida. Floyd attended the Assemblies of God Church for many years where he was active with the Royal Rangers group. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather to his family. He will be greatly missed.
In his memory, donations may be given to the Alzheimer''s Association.
