Forrest A. Acker, 88, of Mishawaka, passed away at 12:22 am, Friday, August 20, 2010 in Valley View Health Care Center, Elkhart. Forrest was born on July 12, 1922 in Stanley, WI to the late Reuel and Bessie (Lewallan) Acker. On July 11, 1978, he married Joan Wesolowski.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan of Mishawaka, two children, Rick Acker of South Bend and Rachelle Acker of Chippewa Falls, WI and two grandchildren, Kessa and Lisa. He is also survived by two sisters, Irene Kizer of Warsaw and Helen (Bill) Eaton of Osceola. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence.
He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army and was in the battle of Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea and the Pilli` pines. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He retired from Federal Paper & Board in Elkhart after 30 years and was a member of the American Legion Post 161. He will be remembered for his love of animals and his work on tractors.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola with two hours of visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
