ELKHART - Francis C. Rice, 92, passed away peacefully December 5, 2017 at Center For Hospice Care in Elkhart. Mr. Rice was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 17, 1925 to the late Fred and Anna (Engless) Rice. Francis was wed to Dorothy Makowsky until her passing in January of 2008.
Francis served his country honorably during WWII in the United States Navy. He loved woodworking, gardening, and being outside enjoying all that nature had to offer.
He was a coin and die cast car collector. In his younger years, he and his wife Dorothy liked to bowl. Mr. Rice will always be remembered as a great conversationalist with a very good sense of humor. Though he didn''t seek the attention of those in a crowd, he was sure to make his surroundings friendly with his presence.
Francis is survived by his son Richard (Susan) Rice of Fort Mill, SC and his niece Marilyn Mahoney. In addition to his loving wife Dorothy, Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his five brothers, Harold, Benjamin, Elmer, George, and Kenneth Rice.
Family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home located at 10776 McKinley Hwy, Osceola. Interment will commence in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens after visitation.
