Rev. Frank L. Stephens, 89, of Granger, IN passed away on September 17, 2018 at home under the care of Hospice. Rev. Stephens was born April 23, 1929 in Randolph County, Indiana to William Dewey Stephens and Mildred Frances (Gilmore) Stephens. On September 13, 1948, he married Betty R. Mitchell. He graduated from Taylor University in 1957. On August 3, 1958, he was ordained a Minister of the Congregational Christian Church, later to become the United Church of Christ. He served 39 years and 8 months in the active Pastorate. He retired in 1994 after serving 11 ½ years at the First United Church of Christ in Osceola, Indiana. During his ministry, he spent over 30 years involved in Conference Committees and church camps serving as Director many times. In cooperation with the Disciples of Christ Church, he made over 20 trips to the Smoky Mountains National Park in New Hampshire. He also was involved in back country canoe trips for several days at a time with family and friends. He drove a school bus for Penn Harris Madison School Corporation for 15 years. After his retirement, he became an associate for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. During his employment there, he was part of a crew that setup and opened two Wal-Mart Super Centers and was a People Greeter at the store on Old US 20 in Elkhart. While working there, he was still involved in Ministry and had several weddings for associates. Rev. Stephens is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; two daughters, Connie (Ken) Hauser of Bluffton, and Karen (Don) Ryckeart of Granger; four grandchildren, Lisa (Kelby) Weybright, Scott (Vickie) Hauser, Amy (Todd) Richardson, Shane (Samantha) Ryckeart; and eleven great-grandchildren, Garrett, Jacob, Maria Weybright, Noah, Carter Richardson, Emily Colin Hauser, Austin Replogle, Ethan, Ella, and Cole Ryckeart. He was preceded in death by his dad, Dewey, in 1969; his mom, Mildred, in 1973; his brother, William Robert Stephens, in 1952; and a sister, Burnadene Simpson, in 1979. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9-11 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service celebrating Rev. Stephen's life will be held on Saturday at 11 AM following the visitation with Pastor Gail Miller-McKee officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
