Fred G. VanDiepenbos, age 83, of Cassopolis, Michigan, formerly of Elkhart, passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 19, 2009 of natural causes. Fred was born August 23, 1926 in Waterford, Indiana to George and Velma (Kris) VanDiepenbos. On November 27, 1948, Fred married the former Ms. Marietta Dispennett. She preceded him in death, passing away in 1995.
Surviving is his son, George VanDiepenbos of Elkhart, Indiana, and his daughter, Michele (Clayton) Wakeman of Cassopolis, Michigan. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 sisters, Elsie Kolhold of Elkhart, Hazel Vereland of Elkhart, and Nellie Jamison of Michigan. Fred was preceded in death by his daughter, Diana Kenison.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens where VFW Post # 360 will perform Military Rites.
Fred was employed for many years at Federal Paperboard. In his spare time, he enjoyed latch-hooking rugs, walking, and drinking coffee. In his memory, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer''s Association.
