Obituary

Freeda Arlene DeMont, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on June 15, 1936, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Freeda was the cherished daughter of Raymond and Florence (Newcomer) Shivley. She spent her early years in Indiana before making her home in Mulberry, Florida, where she lived for the past 35 years. Throughout her life, Freeda was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

A faithful member of Shepherds Community United Methodist Church, Freeda found strength and comfort in her faith. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected her creativity and adventurous nature. She loved sailing and treasured the peace and beauty found on the water. She was also a talented crocheter and knitter, creating countless handmade gifts and keepsakes that will continue to be treasured by family and friends for generations.

More than anything, Freeda's greatest joy was her family. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was a place of warmth, love, and welcome, and she created countless memories through family gatherings, conversations, laughter, and traditions that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Though she will be deeply missed, Freeda's family finds comfort in the many memories she created and the love she shared so generously throughout her life.

Freeda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert D. DeMont, with whom she shared many wonderful years of marriage and family life.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her daughters, Donna (David) Stout, Janet Roberts (Dan Mihal), and Karen (David) Quick; nine grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, faith, kindness, and devotion to family will continue through all who were blessed to know her.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Seigler Funeral Home Chapel, 1300 Highway 60 East, Mulberry, Florida 33860.

A second visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, Indiana 46561. Burial will immediately follow the visitation.
