Friedrich (Fred) Clemens Werner, age 78, passed away December 15, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. Fred was born May 7, 1931 in Reading, Pennsylvania to the late Erna and Fritz Werner. They preceded him in death.
Surviving are his siblings, Christiane (Lester) Snyder, Hildegard (Thomas) Bennett, and Johannes (Margret) Werner, along with their children and grandchildren.
After high school graduation, Fred served as a B-29 flight engineer and B-47 crew chief in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. In 1961, Fred earned a B.S. in aerospace engineering from Purdue University, and an M.S. in civil engineering in 1973 from Colorado State University.
During his career as an aeronautical engineer, Fred worked for the Boeing Company and Lockheed Martin Corporation. As an employee of these companies, he was involved with many space projects, such as the Saturn, Titan, and Viking programs.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum, on the grounds of Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
