Obituary

Gary Thomas Harmon, 74, of Niles, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2024.  Beloved husband for 35 years of the late Janice (Koehler) Harmon. Gary was born on November 25, 1949 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Rex and Doris (Leighty) Harmon.

He graduated from Penn High School in Mishawaka, followed by an Associate Degree from Ivy Tech.  Having met Jan while proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, Gary then married the love of his life on April 22, 1972 in Detroit, Michigan.  After finishing his tour of duty in Vietnam, Gary and Jan made their home in Mishawaka.  Gary began his career as a self-employed technician with Harmon Sales and Service and then devoted several years to Onan Generators.  Gary's true passion was always farming.  He kept his family and friends fed with the bushels and bushels of produce he harvested each year.  His love of dogs, from beagles to boxers, filled his home with energy and excitement, as Gary was never without at least one by his side.  Gary was quick witted, a great story embellisher and after a few complaints, truly enjoyed a big party.

He was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion, Post #365, the VFW in Mishawaka, Post # 360, the Oscoda American Legion, Post #274 and Vietnam Veterans of Michiana.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Rex and Doris; his brother Ronald; granddaughter Katelynn Turner-Harmon; mother and father-in-law Virginia and Vincent Koehler; sisters-in-law Ann Priebe (Dick), Barbara Dietz (Ken); brothers-in-law Bill and Paul Koehler.

Gary is survived by his son Craig Harmon; brothers Kent Harmon, Gregory Harmon (Penny); sisters-in-law Irene Dodson (the late Jim), Joan Alderson (Jerry), Ginny Riederer (Brian), Diane Koehler, Ellen Koehler; brothers-in-law Vincent Koehler, Donald Koehler (the late Bert), Mike Koehler (Mary), Phil Koehler (Nancy), Rik Koehler (Janeen), Kathy Koehler, Keith Koehler (Cheryl), Brian Koehler (Julie), Dave Koehler; and many many nieces and nephews.
