Gene Fritz
January 2, 1949 – August 9, 2025
Gene Fritz, 76, of Elkhart, formerly of Bremen, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born on January 2, 1949, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Gene was the son of the late Chester and Blanche (Feitz) Fritz. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Fritz, in 2023; his brothers, Charlie Fritz and Bob Fritz.
Gene was a well-known butcher in his community, processing venison, pork, and beef for many local families. Later in life, he retired as a truck driver, a career that suited his hardworking nature.
A devoted family man and avid outdoorsman, Gene found joy in hunting, fishing, working puzzles, and tending to his gardens. His greatest happiness came from time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: Tina Fritz, Kimberly (Larry) Winslow, Cheryl (Jeffrey) Douglas, and Bradley (Elizabeth) Fritz; six grandchildren: Maggie (Brian), Josie, Jonathan, Alex, Jordan, and Gunner; and three great-grandchildren: Emmett, Nathan, and Scout. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Bonnie) Fritz and a sister, Thelma McClure, brother-in-law, Eric (Carol) Botset, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, including all of his new friends he made at Harmony of Elkhart that he enjoyed spending time with talking about their lives and putting puzzles together, watching movies and having dinner and lots of fun.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN. A funeral service in Gene's honor will begin at 12:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Bremen Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Harmony at Elkhart for making dad feel right at home.
