Norman Eugene "Gene" Rathke , 91, of Goshen, died Thursday, July 9, 2020. Gene was born December 31, 1928 in Kimmel, Indiana, the son of (the late) Norman Carl Rathke and Ruby (Kline) Rathke. On November 6, 1949, Gene married Leona M. "Polly" (Young) Rathke in Elkhart; she survives after 70 years of marriage. Gene retired as an Inspector for The Hartford Insurance Co. and enjoyed travelling & camping, always pausing to enjoy the sights and attractions along the way; he liked spending winters in Florida and summers on Ridinger Lake at Jellystone Campground, and caring for the family pets. He was a 50 year member of the Moose Lodge in Elkhart and also had a history with motorcycles and midget racing. Gene was preceded in death by his sons, Richard and Jerry Rathke; his brother Phil Rathke and his sister, Joyce Browning.  In addition to his wife Polly, Gene is also survived by his daughters, Beverly (Mike Bricker) Rathke of Bristol and Barbara Rathke of Jacksonville FL; grandchildren, Mathew (Nicole) Rathke of Elkhart, April (Jack) Blankenbaker of Goshen, Rick Stannard & Marijke Rathke, both in Michigan, Kimberly Rathke in Arizona and several great-grandchildren. Gene is also survived by his brothers, Fred Rathke in Columbia City, Ernie (Shirley) Rathke of Wolcottville, Mike Rathke of Indianapolis and his sister, Sharon Penland in Tennessee. Funeral Services 2:00 Tuesday July 14, 2020 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Visitation is Tuesday from 1-2pm in the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
