Eugene "Gene" Edward Vaughn, age 78, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at Elkhart General Hospital. Gene was born March 8, 1931 to the late Raymond and Donnabelle (Ellsworth) Vaughn. On November 19, 1954, Gene married Norma (Burks) Vaughn in Osceola, Indiana.
Norma survives, along with their children Chris Bock and Mike (Tracy) Vaughn, both of Elkhart, Indiana. Also surviving are two grandsons, Nick and Tony Vaughn of Elkhart. Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Price.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am-12:00 pm Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Gene attended Jimtown High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951. He served his Country as an aircraft mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1953. Gene was employed for 36 years with Miles Laboratories in Elkhart as a machinist before retiring in 1993.
In his spare time, Mr. Vaughn enjoyed purchasing and restoring Corvettes. Other hobbies include watching Notre Dame Football and NASCAR races, especially his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. He also traveled to Germany for his employment, and spent his 45th wedding anniversary with his wife Norma in Hawaii. Gene also enjoyed Friday night get togethers with his grandsons.
