IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Allen
Davis
July 11, 1938 – January 28, 2024
George A. Davis
July 11, 1938 - January 28, 2024
"A guy walks into a bar…" (Oh wait… this is about the Old Man.)
George A. Davis, 85, of Osceola, Ind., passed away January 28 th , 2024, after a battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard, Sr. and Margaret; his brothers Keith, Leonard, Jr., and his sister, Margaret "Glee"; his wife of more than 50 years, Joan (Shireman), and his favorite granddaughter, Aubrey Yike. He is survived by his sister, Rebecca (Richard) Dawman of Mishawaka, Ind., and four children, David (Tammy), of Osceola, Ind.; Janie (Kenneth) Yike, of South Bend, Ind.; Mark (Donna), of Mishawaka, Ind.; and Sally (John) Perry, of Elkhart, Ind.; ten grandchildren, Stormey (Nathan) Boggs, Matt (Tonya), Jason, & David (Vicky); Rachel & Marissa Yike; Luke (Jenna) & Paige, Lydia & Vivian Perry; and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his favorite fishing buddy (besides Jesus), Phil Raymond.
George was born and raised in Osceola, and even as a child, he was a force to be reckoned with. His natural talent for jokes and pranks started early, and he loved nothing more than a good laugh. As a child, he frequently kept snakes and frogs in his pockets – a tendency that his future
wife, Joan, found disgusting. Despite garnering the affections of other girls (including Joan's own sisters), he ultimately won Joan over, and they were wed October 20th , 1956. His passions in life were fishing, his wife, and jokes. When he wasn't wetting a line, he was
helping raise four children and making a career at RC Cola. He had a knack for odd solutions to projects around the house, like stringing a fishing line into a bucket to stop the sound of a leak. He and Joan enjoyed gardening, and once grew fifty tomato plants – no one left Basswood Road
without a basket full of tomatoes that summer!
If laughter is the best medicine, George was a skilled practitioner. He never forgot a joke, and was prone to embarrassing his family members by telling the more vulgar ones to medical personnel. Even in his 70s, he engaged in prank wars with his granddaughter, Aubrey, and won many a Wii bowling competition with his kids and grandkids. Our hearts are broken and we will miss him always. He was loved and made us laugh every day. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's are more than welcome.
