Gladys Margery Bickel, daughter of Albert and Freda DeWilde, was born December 8, 1918 in Des Moines, IA and died May 12, 2023 at Greencroft, Goshen, IN. She was 104. Gladys was preceded in death by her father, mother, sisters Phyllis and Madge, brother Gordon, husband Mars and son Stanley. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law David and Janel Thomas, Paul and Angie Bickel and daughters and son-in-law Kathleen and Robert Borden and Ruth Bickel 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews. Gladys moved to California during World War II and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" building Lockheed P38 Lightning planes. She returned to her family in Goshen working at Penn Controls and then Goshen Public Schools. She loved Goshen High School sports, cribbage, bingo, traveling and RVing. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the First Methodist Church until limited by health. Visitation will be from 11:00 - 12:00 at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home on May 23, 2023 followed by a graveside service in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN. Donations may be made to the American Legion.
