Harlan W. Marvel, 51, of Decatur, MI formerly of Elkhart, IN passed away at 3:45 pm, Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Harlan was born on March 10, 1958 in Mishawaka to Harlan D. and Nancy E. Marvel, Jr. On May 23, 1987, he married Anna M. Gries.
He is survived by his wife Anna, two sons, Samual (Sara McKibbin) Marvel of Portland, OR and James Tidd of Elkhart, IN; two granddaughters, Sophia and Ariell Marvel; father, Harlan (Suzanne) D. Marvel, Jr. of Elkhart, mother, Nancy Cabana of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by five sisters, Gail (Harold) Bishop of Osceola, Deanna (Pete) Gilles, Vicki (Bruce) Gowdy, Brenda Waddell, and Kathy (Brian) Hinegardner, all of Elkhart, and five brothers, Charles D. Marvel of Mishawaka, Daniel Marvel of Chesterton, IN, Mark Marvel of Elkhart, Tim (Rojelia) Marvel of Dallas, TX and Gary (Amy) Marvel of Syracuse, IN. He is preceded in death by one brother, Gregory Marvel.
Harlan worked in construction for many years and loved to work with concrete. He attended Emotions Anonymous for the past several years. He will be remembered for his love of the Indianapolis Colts and listening to music.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Cremation will follow and burial of ashes will be at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
