Harold Wayne Nickerson, 69, of Elkhart, IN, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, April 29, 2022 after his fight with Vascular Dementia.

Wayne was born on May 22, 1952 in Detroit, MI, raised by mother Ramona Nickerson and step-father Floyd Nickerson. He attended New Prarie High School in New Carlisle, IN, graduating in 1970.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Beverly (Stevens). They met in high school, eventually marrying in 1972. In 1973, they had their only daughter, Angela Gatto (Nickerson), who precedes him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Nickerson.

Wayne is also survived by his four grandchildren, Londyn Nickerson, Skylar McGuire, Cadyn (Zackary) Kruszewski, and Sophia Gatto, as well as his great-grandchildren, Ember Kruszewski, and Ezra Kruszewski. He is also survived by his aunt Alice Blackburn, uncle Pat Hill, and uncle Kenny Bose.

Wayne was a staple in his social circle, beloved by friends and family alike. He had a sense of humor no one could match, and when he got himself laughing, he often couldn't stop.

Wayne loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who he had a soft spot for. Between grilling at family cookouts, setting up the pool every summer, and creating rope swings and playgrounds for them, he was also known to share sweets and snacks with them, sometimes well after it was supposed to be bedtime. He worked on their cars, helped them carve pumpkins in the garage for Halloween, and always made sure he was one of the first to try out their video games they received from Santa (that he stood in line all night on Black Friday for.)

The family of Wayne would like to extend a huge amount of gratitude to the Hospice nurses, who cared for him in his final days, but the siblings of Beverly that supported them as well, including Judith and Lee Hope, Gilbert "Earl" Stevens, and Charles and Kimberly Stevens.
