Harry G. Ramsbey, Jr., 86, of South Bend, passed away in his daughter''s home at 5:40 pm, Monday, August 3, 2009. Harry was born on April 13, 1923 in Mishawaka to the late Harry G. and Celia (Hursey) Ramsbey. On April 27, 1946 he married Betty J. Mumford. She passed away on May 10, 1993. He is also preceded in death by three siblings, Kate Yoder, Mariellen Shively, and Robert Ramsbey.
He is survived by two daughters, Diana (Gary) Priebe and Dawn (Stephen) Mathews, Jr, both of South Bend; five grandchildren, Tina (Chuck) Newman, Gary Priebe, Jr., Stacie Priebe, Jessica (Kris) Schmautz, and Robbie Niemier; and four great grandchildren, Mikey Priebe, Austin Miller-Priebe, Brianna Priebe, and Isabella Schmautz.
Harry was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. He proudly served his country in the 15 Cavalry Recon Squad of the U.S. Army during WWII before becoming honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of the Izaak Walton League of South Bend, where he was past president. He owned/operated The Arrow Shop for many years. He will be remembered for his love of fishing and hunting.
A gathering of friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, August 6, 2009 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Entombment will take place in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
