Obituary

Harry Phillip Wellman, age 80, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. Harry was born July 2, 1930 in Garrett, Kentucky to the late Carl Thomas and Thelma (Johnson) Wellman. On February 20, 1954, Harry married Stella Schott at the First Presbyterian Church in Mishawaka. They had celebrated 54 years of happiness together when she passed away in December of 2008.

Surviving are his sons Greg Vince (Debra) Wellman and Greg Allen (Jane) Miller, both of Mishawaka, Indiana. Also surviving is his sister Lillian (Donald) Harris of Santa Maria, California, and his Aunt Helen Graham of Mishawaka. Surviving as well are four grandchildren, Sara (Brian) Miller, Ian (Lindsay) Hall, Harry Wellman, and Forrest Wellman; three great grandchildren, Jeremy Hall, Cody Barnes, and Yasmine Hall, several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 3:00 pm funeral services on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Entombment will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Harry served his country during the Korean War era from 1951 to 1953 before his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army. After his service, Harry went to barber''s school, and was a self employed union barber for several years. In 1969, he became employed at AM General in Mishawaka as an inspector for the military vehicles before his retirement in 1995 after 26 years of service. While employed at AM General, he continued to work as a part time barber for his friends and in several hospitals and nursing homes in the area.

In his spare time, Harry enjoyed fishing, especially ice fishing with his youngest son, spending time with the fishermen on the bank of the River, and playing Euchre with his family. He also enjoyed riding his "Scooter" all over town and to Potato Creek State Park while wearing his famous leather vest. He and his friend Jack would also row out into the River and hunt golf balls that would find their way off the course.
