Helen Marion Chaney, 92, of South Bend, passed away at 5:00 am, Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in Cardinal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Helen was born on May 19, 1921 in Alexander, ND, the daughter of the late William C. and Turby (Bergstad) Cornell. On June 3, 1937, she married Elmer D. Chaney. He passed away on September 10, 1988. She is also preceded in death by two adult children, Georgia Mae Kaufman and John Allen Chaney.
She is survived by five children, Dona (Harold) Kite of South Bend, Hazle (Ken) Carter of South Bend, Elmer Dale (Joanne) Chaney of South Bend, William E. Chaney of South Bend and Marvin (Vernette) Chaney of Benton Harbor, MI; 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Kathleen Litteral of Livingston, Montana.
Helen worked for Campbell Box & Tag and also at Robertson''s Department Store. She was the last surviving member of the Mother''s of Marine''s of South Bend. In the 1980''s, she was part of the Traditional Country Music Festival in Avoca, IA, where she was a performer and Master of Ceremonies. She will be remembered for her love of Bob Evan''s biscuits and gravy.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 24, 2013 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola
