Obituary

Helen M. Gygi, age 93, of Waldorf, Maryland, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Waldorf Genesis Health Center of natural causes. Helen was born November 8, 1916 in Edwardsburg, Michigan to the late Henry and Emma Oest.
Surviving are her children, Dick (Bonni) Gygi of Franklin, Tennessee, and Wendy (Richard) Palumbo of Port Tobacco, Maryland. Also surviving is her brother, Henry Oest of California and 2 sisters, Louise Schuelke of Paw Paw, Michigan and Hazel Ralston of Niles, Michigan. 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren survive as well. Helen was preceded in death by her son Robert A. Gygi, her brother Herb Oest, and her sisters Gertrude Miller and Bernice Clark.
Visitation will be held from 5-8pm Monday, March 22 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 23, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Helen was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkhart where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and in the Ladies Aid Society, for which she made many quilts and pillows. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Hyattsville, Maryland for many years as well. She enjoyed gardening and caring for and feeding birds around her home.
