Dunlap resident Howard W. Holmes passed away in the early morning of June 15, 2017. The Laurence County, Alabama native was born July 19, 1946 to Jessie L. and Wilma (Hershberger) Holmes, both of which have preceded him in death. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Howard spent nearly 30 years with Elkhart Products providing for his family and putting them first. He married his wife Judy on May 31, 1968 and raised two sons, Howard Jr. (Penny) and Sharn (Melody) Holmes, and was also active in the lives of his two grandchildren, Stephen and Natalie Holmes who are now in college and high school respectively. Howard is also survived by four sisters, Rosie Bright, Betty Bollinger, Carolyn Kincaid, and Jean Smith. His antics and goofball nature earned him the loving nickname "Grumpy" with his grandchildren and family. He enjoyed working on cars, scrapping and recycling, and a good game of Euchre. Howard was a strong man of faith and attended church often. In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 19, 2017 at 2 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561 with calling one hour prior to the service. Pastor Brian Whidden of the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Elkhart will be conducting the service with burial to follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
