Irene M. Kallies, age 82, of South Bend, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2010 at Holy Cross Extended Care in South Bend of natural causes. Irene was born April 8, 1928 to the late Edward and Evelyn M. (Schoenbeck) Kaross in Chicago, Illinois.
Surviving is her daughter, Linda Groning and her soul mate Josh Armstrong of Elkhart, and two grandsons, Thomas Groning and his wife Alicia of South Bend, and Travis Groning of Elkhart. Also surviving are two great grandchildren; Cody and Hailie Groning. Irene was deeply devoted to her family, especially to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola, Indiana. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Irene was employed for many years at the Tootsie Roll Company in Chicago, Illinois as a file clerk, and then became a homemaker in her later years. She enjoyed playing BINGO and was a member of the exercise club at her residence. She also attended Deer Run Church of Christ for several years.
