Obituary

Jack L. Irons, age 90, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and the enduring peace of his faith. Born on December 26, 1934, to Harry E. Irons and Mary A. (Beadle) Irons, Jack was a true reflection of Midwestern values and Christian devotion. His life was one filled with compassion, laughter, generosity, and a love for others that knew no bounds.

Jack lived a life that was deeply rooted in faith and family. His relationship with the Lord guided every step he took, and prayer was a daily act of love for the people in his life. Whether he was bowing his head quietly at the table or whispering a prayer for a grandchild going through a hard time, Jack believed in the power of prayer and lived it wholeheartedly. His faith was not just something he spoke about. It was something he practiced in every conversation, every handshake, and every act of kindness.

On February 8, 1958, Jack married the love of his life, Veida Irons. Their marriage of 62 years was a testament to enduring love, patience, and unwavering commitment. Together they built a beautiful life centered around their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Jack's love for Veida was quiet but unmistakably powerful. He often brought her a single rose, followed by a gentle kiss on the cheek. Even in their later years, he could be seen holding her hand, a tender reminder of the love they shared and the promises they kept.

Jack's presence was comforting, calming, and full of joy. He had a gentle heart, an easygoing spirit, and a smile that could light up a room. He had a way of making people feel at ease. Whether he was sharing a fishing story full of laughter, checking in on family members just to make sure they were okay, or calling someone "Bud" in that familiar, friendly tone, Jack made people feel like they mattered. He was never too busy to listen. He was the kind of man who would drop everything to help someone in need, and he always had time for coffee, conversation, and connection.

One of Jack's greatest joys in life was the outdoors. He loved to fish and hunt, often returning from fishing trips with tales that grew just a little taller each time they were told. Those stories, always filled with laughter and joy, became part of the family's cherished traditions. Sundays were sacred in the Irons household, not only for church and prayer but for family dinners. Jack adored having everyone gathered around the table, sharing a meal, telling stories, and creating memories that will now live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

A lover of old westerns, Jack could often be found watching his favorite movies with a cup of coffee in hand. He also enjoyed casual visits to Callahan's Restaurant and Bristol Street Cafe in Elkhart, a familiar and comforting place that brought back memories of good times and good company. He always had a project or two he was working on, whether it was something around the house or helping someone else with theirs. Jack thrived when he had a purpose, and he found joy in staying busy and being helpful.

More than anything, Jack was a devoted family man. He was a loving father, a proud grandfather, and an adoring great-grandfather. His grandchildren knew him as the best grandpa ever, a title he wore with quiet pride. He passed on life lessons not just through words but through example. He taught integrity, kindness, patience, and faith. The impact he made on his family's lives is vast and indescribable. He was the one you called when you needed guidance, reassurance, or just someone to listen.

Jack ran his race with grace and strength, never losing sight of what truly mattered. He joked, "If the pearly gates don't open fast enough, I'll jump over them." And now, we believe he has made it, entering heaven with that same confidence, charm, and faith that defined his life.

So, until we see you again, Dad. We love you. We miss you. Thank you for everything you taught us. Thank you for the love you gave so freely. Your legacy is not only remembered but deeply felt.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Veida Irons, his son Larry L. Irons, and his brothers Jerry Irons, Richard "Dick" Irons, and Charles "Chuck" Irons. Their memories, like his, are forever treasured.

He is survived by his children Judy Orange, Viola Flicker and her husband Richard, and Harry Irons and his wife Tracy. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law Barb Irons. Jack leaves behind his loving siblings Shirley Reafsnyder and Fay Long and her husband Gary. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought joy and pride into his life.
