Jack  S. Weiss was born June 24, 1923 in Elkhart Indiana. He passed peacefully in his sleep on February 16, 2023, 4 months short of his 100th birthday.

He was the 2nd son of Waldemar A. & Grace M. (Greiger) Weiss. The depression hit his family hard and they moved to a farm west of Elkhart where everyone dug in and made their changed lives work. He learned many of lifes hard lessons during that time and became the man he was and learned the importance of  family.

In 1942 after the WWII had started, he and his brother Ray, enlisted in the Navy along with their father who served in the Navy in WWI and re-enlisted in WWII as a Lieutenant Commander. They trained together at Great Lakes NS and then Jack was sent to the Ford River Rouge plant in Detroit for Machinist school. After training completion he was sent the Pacific Theater and served as a Machinist Mate on the USS Columbia CL-56 until after the war ended. The pride in his ship & his duty were profound.

He worked for Bendix in South Bend for 38 years as an experimental machinist, where he was honored to help develop the fuel system for the SR-71 Blackbird. He also helped out at his sister & brother-in-law's glass shop in Elkhart. After retiring in 1984 he became a Florida snowbird in Fort Myers. In 1994 he and Sonya moved to Florida full time to be close to his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Kenneth Weiss & Ray (Faye) Weiss and his sister and best friend, Mary Weiss (Dan) Overhulser.

Jack is survived by his wife & helpmate, Sonya. They had a wonderful, loving life together and always worked as a team. He is also survived by his nephew,  Lon Burt, 3 nieces, Debbie (Bruce) Jetter, Largo, FL Cindi (Bob) Elder, Muskegon, MI, &  Sue (Dale) Newell, Live Oak FL. He also has many great-nieces & nephews, and great-great nieces.   He was also a good friend to Sonya's sons, Scott Long & Jeff (Karen) Long & Jeff & Karen's 4 daughters, Marissa (Travis) Dowdy, Elkhart IN, Emily Long, Midddlebury IN, Samantha Long, Indianapolis IN & Kelsie Long, a Purdue student, Middlebury IN.
