Obituary

James E. DeLong, 83, died Friday May 21, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Elkhart. The South Bend native was born August 30, 1926 to Nolan & Elsie (Montgomery) DeLong. Mr. DeLong was a US Navy veteran of WWII , was formerly employed at Studebaker and had retired from Toledo Scales. A beloved husband, father & grandfather, Jim was an active member of Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ, St. Joe Lodge #45, F.&A.M. South Bend Valley Scottish Rite and V.F.W. Post #360. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and spending time working on his yard, as well as following the Cubs and Notre Dame Football. Survivors include his wife, Doris DeLong; daughter Karol (Thomas) Erlacher; son, Kim DeLong; sister, Betty Brown and his grandchildren, Amber, Kayla Kyle, Erin & Eric Erlacher and Laci DeLong. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray & Don and his sister, Lois. Funeral Services 2:00PM Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call Monday from 4-8PM at the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family''s preferred memorials are The Alzheimer''s Disease & Related Disorders Association or Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ.
