JAMES STANTON DOTY

May 25, 1930 – April 21, 2025

James (Jim) Stanton Doty, age 94, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at home with his son by his side.

James was born on May 25, 1930, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Jay Elliott and Esther (Priem) Doty.  A proud graduate of Elkhart High School, Class of 1949, he went on to earn his degree in engineering from Purdue University in 1953. Following his graduation, James served in the United States Army. It was during this time, at a USO dance, that he met the love of his life, Beverly (Frick). The two were married on July 2, 1956, in Fredericksburg, Va., and made their home in Elkhart. Beverly passed away on July 29, 2022.

Jim and Beverly were devoted members of Trinity Lutheran Church, where they were actively involved for many years. He worked for Allied Signal (Bendix) and designed the TALOS Missile systems. He was a founding member of the Tri Valley Modelers RC Club, where he shared his passion for model aircraft. A lover of classic cars, he especially cherished his 1965 Triumph Spitfire. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica—much to Beverly's "amusement"—and had a lifelong love of golf, which he missed playing in his later years.

Jim is survived by his children, James H. (Chris) Doty of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Ann M. (Greg) Suetkamp of Osceola; and Michael H. Doty of Elkhart. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren: Alicia (Jared) Ortner of Slater, Iowa; Holly (Jason) Bailey of Osceola; Andrea (John) Futa of Mishawaka; Amber Doty of Cedar Rapids; and Gregory Suetkamp of Osceola. His legacy continues through his 11 great-grandchildren: Alex, Brielle, Benjamin, Nick, Eden, Jameson, Brooklynne, Grace, Maren, Everly, and Makenzie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay and Esther Doty; his wife, Beverly; his granddaughter, Rebekah Suetkamp; and his great-granddaughter, Adleigh Suetkamp.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
