James W. Elkins, age 87 of Bristol, passed away March 12, 2011 at Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Elkhart. James was born April 17, 1923 to the late James W. and Inez (Robertson) Elkins in Grantsburg, IL.
Surviving is his son David Elkins of Elkhart, and his step son Randy Weaver of White Pigeon, MI. He is also survived by his siblings Deloris Freeze of Manchester, TN, Darlene Stoddard and Norma Elkins, both of Milwaukee, WI. James was preceded in death by his siblings, Raymond and Hervin Elkins and Sue Wright.
Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 1:00 pm funeral service on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola. Interment and Military Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
James was a Navy combat veteran during World War II at the beach in Normandy, and the invasion of Okinawa. After his honorable discharge, he then served in the Marine Corps Reserves for several years. He was employed for many years at Vincent-Bach in Elkhart, where he was a member of the UAW-CIO Union. He retired in 1988. James also enjoyed sports, especially all of the Chicago area sports teams.
