James Stanley "Jimmy" Richards Jr., age 79, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at the Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Jimmy was born Feb. 11, 1934 in Flint, Michigan to the late James S. and Esther M. (Beyer) Richards.
Surviving are his daughters, Dana E. Richards of Mishawaka, and Laurel L. Richards of Connecticut and his grandchildren, Karlee Allison Ring, Robert James Clippinger, and Sarah Spring Brough. He is also survived by his siblings Tom (Jill) Richards of Osceola, David (Louise) Richards of Illinois, and Kathleen Rozanski of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Damecki and his wife Barbara June (Demo) Richards.
It was Jimmy''s wish to have a simple gathering of friends and family to remember his life. There will be a gathering from 1 to 4 pm on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 at the VFW Post #357 in South Bend. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Jimmy served his country for over 20 years before being honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps. After his retirement, he was employed as a letter carrier for the US Post office for many years.
He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post # 357, where he loved to spend time with his Marine Corps buddies, play cards and tell stories. In his younger years, Jimmy ran several marathons. He loved to cook and enjoyed playing cards and watching Notre Dame Sports. Jimmy also enjoyed traveling throughout the US visiting the many friends he had made during his time in the Military.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Center for Hospice Care.
