James E. Kemnitz, 86, of Elkhart, passed away on November 16, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on Sept. 10, 1934 in Elkhart to Gustave W. and Emma V. (Kime) Kemnitz, Sr.
He is survived by 2 sons, Gary M. "Mitch" Kemnitz, John Kemnitz, John's wife Sonya, and 3 grandchildren, James, Michael, and MacKinzie. Also surviving is a sister, Jeanne Wise.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gustave W. Kemnitz, Jr., and his ex-wife, Shirley May Kemnitz.
Mr. Kemnitz retired from the United States Army as a Major, 5 th Special Forces, after 20 years of honorable service.
He was a member of the Military Officer's Association. He enjoyed computers and collecting old cameras. He shared an interest in old movies with his son, Mitch. They often spent time on the phone talking about an old TCM movie James had watched.
Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to the Funeral Service in his honor, which will be at 1 PM on Tuesday November 24, 2020 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #360.
