James E. "Mick" McCombs, 89, of Mishawaka, died Monday March 2, 2015. The Teegarden native was born March 2, 1926 to James W. & Eva M. (Titus) McCombs. Mick was a WWII veteran of the US Army, was a Gold Star recipient and served as a Staff Sergeant on the front lines with the 1st Infantry Division. He was a retired butcher and grocery store manager. Mick was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the VFW, the American Legion and the 40 & 8. Mick was honored as one of the passengers onboard the WWII War Memorial Honor Flight, from Chicago to Washington, D.C. Mick was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue McCombs and his daughter, Patti Polich. His survivors include his wife, Pauline McCombs of Mishawaka; sons, Steven (Kim Miller) McCombs of Covington IN, Martin McCombs of los Angeles CA; daughter, Juli (Paul) Humbles of Aldie VA; son-in-law, Al Polich of Western Springs IL; step-daughters, Shelly (Scott) LaPlace of Wolcottville, Karen (Mike) Horvath of South Bend; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. There are no services in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Private interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
