Obituary

James "Jim" P. Smith, 89, of Mishawaka, entered into eternal rest on October 31, 2021. He was born on June 27, 1932 in Muncie, IN. Jim was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. After the Army, he continued his trade as a Journeyman Patternmaker. He retired from Elkhart Pattern. Jim taught CCD class and was a founding member of the Tri Valley RC Club where he served four terms as president. He was an accomplished Commercial Pilot, Aerobatic Pilot, Flight Instructor, RC Pilot, and builder. Jim had so much love for his family and he loved being a pilot.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Smith; parents, Kemper Paul Smith and Lucille M. (Torpey) Smith; brothers, Gerold and Philip Smith; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He's survived by his children, Steve, Sheryl, Scott, and Jamie; grandchildren, Ryan, Derrick, Keaton, and Colby Smith, Nathan Calabrese, Stefani Calabrese-Davidson, and Christina Jo Calabrese, Micaela (Smith) Collins, Ted Mayfield, and Meredith Mayfield; and great grandchildren; Sofia, Sadie, Mackenzie, Bella, Jayden, Conrad, Jude, and Lona.

Visitation for Jim will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021 from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home located at 10776 McKinley Hwy Osceola, IN 46561.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Queen of Peace located at 4508 Vistula Rd. Mishawaka, IN 46544. Burial and military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Chapel Hill is honored to care for the Smith Family.
