James D. Phillippi, 86, of South Bend, passed away on Oct. 10, 2022 at home.  He was born on Nov. 24, 1935 in Buchanan, MI to Kenneth H. and Clara E. (Huling) Phillippi.  He married Wilma J. Throneberry on Aug. 5, 1961.  She preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 2021.

James is survived by a son, Rodney (Gail) Phillippi; a daughter, Veldoris (Robert) Nielsen; 7 grandchildren: Marcella (Timothy) Gilleand, Diana (Apollo) Melo, Marguex (Robert) Duff, and Joshua, Samuel, Matthew and Claire Phillippi; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Phillippi, and 3 brothers, Jack, J.F. and Fred Phillippi.

James attended Buchanan High School.  He was a member of South Side Church of God in South Bend, where he was also a member of the Speeders 55 or Over Club.  He owned Phillippi Truck and Tire Service in South Bend.

A Funeral Service in his honor will be on Saturday Oct. 15, 2022 at 11 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home 10776 McKinley Hwy., Osceola, IN 46561. Friends may visit with the family for 1 hour prior to the funeral service.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
