James A. Stowers, 69, of Mishawaka passed away at 6:20 am, Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Jim was born on January 31, 1942 in Valparaiso, IN, the son of the late Charles and Alice (Crawford) Stowers. On July 3, 1970, he married Eleanor Kessler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor of Mishawaka; three children, Annette (Tom) Hough of LaPorte, Melody (Jeff) McShane of LaPorte and Richard Stowers of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Johnathon, Crystal, Courtney, Saige, Caden and Sydney and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert (Doris) Stowers of Kouts, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Mark Shultz, two sisters, Georgie Klahn and Judith MacAleer and two brothers, Charles and Richard.
Jim previously owned/operated a Clark Filling Station and Phillips 66 before joining Atlantis Plastics in Elkhart. He retired from there in 2004. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge #58 of South Bend. He will be remembered for his love of Notre Dame, NASCAR and fishing.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm Thursday, September 29, 2011 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 30, 2011 in the funeral home with Rev. Terry Gundermann officiating.
Memorial contributions may be to the Stowers'' family.
