James "Red" Temple

James "Red" Temple, 94, of Granger, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Center for Hospice, Raclin House in Mishawaka on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on August 28, 1930, in South Bend to the late Angus M. and Camilla (Gamel) Temple. He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan (Mazlo) Temple and second wife Jean Anne (Tetzlaff) Temple. He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Lisa Marie, and his brother, Roy Temple.
James was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. After his service, James spent many years in his professional career, retiring from from Kingman national lease as a truck driver.
A passionate aviation enthusiast, James enjoyed flying and rebuilding airplanes from a young age. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR and enjoyed local automotive racing at various racetracks. He was a devoted Penn High School sports fan, holding season tickets for years, and could often be found working on his famous White Mountain puzzles. He was also an avid watcher of "wrastlin" and watched WWE multiple times a week and sometimes in Spanish. His gardening skills were legendary, especially when it came to growing massive tomatoes in his vegetable garden.
James is survived by his children: Jim (Karen) Temple, Jack Temple, Nancy (Mark) Nielsen, and Tina (Paul) Asmus. He is also survived by three stepchildren: LeeAnn, Butch, and Fred, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, IN.
Graveside U.S. Marine Corps honors will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Center for Hospice, Raclin House, Mishawaka, IN. Donations can be made online at https://foundationforhospice.org/donate/
U.S. Marine Corps Military Honors will be rendered by the Elkhart Area Marines VFW #985 and the active-duty U.S. Marine Corps detachment.
James' life was marked by service, devotion, and a love for his family and passions. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
