Janet Grace Hochstetler

September 27, 1945 - May 14, 2024.

Janet Hochstetler went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on May 14, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born on September 27, 1945 to Magdalena and Robert Hendershott in Elkhart.  She married Larry "Jake" Hochstetler on January 8, 1966 at Calvary United Methodist Church.  They spent 58 wonderful years together.

Janet is survived by her husband Larry Jacob Hochstetler, her brother Robert "Bob" (Sue) Hendershott, her sons Shane (Patty) Hochstetler and Todd Hochstetler, her daughters Tamara (James) VanderWerf and Shelley (Michael) Garner, and grandchildren Andrea Richards, Michael Richards, Jacob Hochstetler, Nathan Hochstetler, Anjela VanderWerf, Bryanna VanderWerf, Christian VanderWerf, Mikayla (Michael) Wolf,  Braden Garner, Samual Garner, Owen Hochstetler, Nora Hochstetler and Sydney Hochstetler; great grandchildren Kaylee, Matteo, Kazden,
Chad, Chase, Bryce, Zaylee; and her loving and faithful dog Roxy.

Janet was preceded in death by her mother Magdalena E Miller, her father Robert M Hendershott, her sister Rose (Charlie) Tompkins and her brother Paul (Vicki) Hendershott.

She was a graduate of Jimtown High School Class of 1963.  She was very proud to be a Jimtown Jimmie and always cherished the time she had with her classmates during and after graduation. She was a hairdresser at Jean and Jones, until she and Jake opened up Hochstetler Plumbing and Heating. She assumed the roll of secretary and business partner and did this until they retired.

Throughout her life she served her loved ones in many ways.  She was a class mom, a coach at the Baugo Little League, involved with the school and community. She was always there to support, defend and protect her Children and Grandchildren.  She was a hero to her Grandchildren.  She was always there and would sacrifice her time whether it be to pick them up from practices or bring them a spare key because they misplaced theirs.  She would treat them to McDonald's and always made a Sunday Dinner for everyone.  She was the heart and soul of the family and loved them unconditionally.

She had several nieces and nephews that meant the world to her.  Over the years she had many kids that passed through her home and her heart. She was always there for the kids in the community and she treated and loved them as her own. Her home was one where everyone felt the love of family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and being outdoors. Her home was her favorite place to be, it is where she was at peace.
