Janet A. Hughey, 77, of Mishawaka, died Monday November 7, 2016 in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. The Goshen native was born May 24, 1939 to Charles E. & Virginia (Chupp) Elliott, Jr. and in 1950 Jan was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes (Type 1) and lived with her disease for the next 66 years. She graduated from Mishawaka High School with the Class of ''57 before attending Bethel College and on July 24, 1960 she married Marvin L. Hughey in Cedar Road United Missionary Church in Osceola; Marv preceded her in death on May 13, 2015 after 54 years of marriage. Jan was a homemaker, an author of six books and a toastmaster for 21 years; a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, she had accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior when she was a child, and although she was not perfect, she was always faithful to Him. Jan faced her diabetes head on; she had been on hemodialysis for 14 years; many of her books addressed living with the disease; she remained active in diabetes causes, events, education and support groups throughout her life. In addition to her parents and her husband, Jan was also preceded in death by her son, David Hughey in 2005 and her brother, Donald Elliott in 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Paul) Parsons of Elkhart; grandchildren, Benjamin Parsons of Elkhart, Stephanie (Caleb) Reinking of Osceola, Jennifer (Jake) Bonney of Mishawaka, Hannah Hughey of Fort Wayne and her great-granddaughter, Haven Reinking. Rev. Mark Black will officiate Funeral Services at 11:00 Saturday November 12, 2016 in Hillcrest Baptist Church, 59220 Bremen Hwy, Mishawaka, where friends may call from 9-11am.
