Janet A. Smith, 74, of Granger, died on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.  She was born on June 2, 1944 to Edmond and Dorothy (Jones) Merchant.  On September 5, 1991, Janet married George Smith and he survives.  Janet worked as a bookkeeper for many years.  She enjoyed making all different kinds of crafts from painting, crocheting, knitting, and sewing, to even making quilts.  Janet is survived by her husband of 27 years, George; her children, Dawn (Rich) Negri of Osceola, Erin (Mike) Watts, Mike Smith, Mark (Patti Barcom) Smith, all of South Bend, and Linda Lee (Jonathon) Ponander of Fort Lauderdale, FL; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a sister Marilyn Gordon of Niles, MI.  She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Shawn Rooney; brother, Gerald Percy; and a sister, Sharon Barry.  In accordance with Janet's wishes, there are no services planned at this time.  Burial will take place at a later date.
