Obituary

Janice A. Pickrell, age 76 of South Bend, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at her home. Janice was born October 27, 1938 in Barry, Illinois. Her parents, Gerald Kellum and Hazel (Bridgewater) Baily, preceded her in death. On February 11, 1967, she married Jack Pickrell in Illinois. He preceded her in death, passing away June 25, 2009.
Survivors include her children, Daniel Ballinger of Lake Station, Indiana, Kevin Ballinger, and Bruce (April) Ballinger, both of South Bend, Robert (Elizabeth) Pickrell of Jacksonville, Florida and Julie (Charles) Sellenberg of South Bend. Her oldest daughter, Cindy Prater, preceded her in death in 2013. Also surviving is her brother, Gerald Kellum of Tucson, Arizona, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Kellum, Peggy Nixon and Maxine Wernowski.
Visitation will be held one hour to the 2:00 pm funeral service on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Janice was a hard worker, and was employed for many years as a seamstress with Gerber Uniforms. She also enjoyed making homemade peanut brittle, other candies and crafts, and would sell them at craft festivals throughout the area. She also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, spending time with her family fishing, camping, and cooking out. Janice also was a longtime member of Timberland Bible Church in Granger.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, Indiana. 46545.
