Jean Burk, age 86, of Elkhart, passed away at her residence on March 9, 2010. Jean was born April 24, 1923 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Michaeline (Kawrenski) Glaz. On September 4, 1984, she married Mr. Victor Burk in Goshen, Indiana.
Victor survives, along with 3 step children; Michael (Patti) Burk of Lake Wood, IN Vickie (Michael) Humphrey of Morton, WA, and Vanessa Bronson of Bristol, IN. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren, and her brothers, Tom (Betty) Glaz of Columbia, S.C., and Raymond (Rita) Glaz of FL. She was preceded in death by 8 siblings.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm, Friday, March 12, 2010 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Rev. Jacob Gall of St. Thomas Catholic Church will officiate the 11:30 service on Saturday, March 13 , 2010 at Chapel Hill. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Jean served as a Nurse in England during WWII. She was employed during her career at Elkhart General Hospital, many different beauty shops in the area and in her home as a beautician, Conn-Selmer, and Gemeinhardt before her retirement in 1985. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Elkhart, and attended Goshen Presbyterian Church as well. Jean was a lifetime member of the DAV #19 in Elkhart, and in her spare time enjoyed travel, making crafts, and ceramics.
