Jean M. Masterman, 82, of South Bend, died Saturday October 1, 2016 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. The Niles native was born August 30, 1934 to Byron D. & Mable (Irving) Boltinghouse. On September 24, 1949 she married Hugh Masterman in Mishawaka. Hugh preceded her in death in 2008 after 58 years of marriage. Jean was a member of Clark Memorial Church in Elkhart and as a member of the DAV Auxiliary, she crocheted afghans. Jean had also served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts; she enjoyed crochet, playing Bingo & cards and travelling. In addition to her parents & husband, Jean was also preceded in death by her grandson, Bradley Payne, brothers, Byron Boltinghouse & William Carson and her sister, Mary Thomas. She is survived by her children, Margaret (Bob) Merley of LaPorte, Linda (Jim) Payne of South Bend, Phyllis (Russell) Johnson of Elkhart and Hugh (Cindy) Masterman, Jr. of South Bend; her brother, Robert (Donna) Boltinghouse in Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Mary Boltinghouse in Oklahoma and Shirley Carson in Pennsylvania; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Rev. Mardell Wilson will officiate the Funeral Services at 2:00 Wednesday October 5, 2016 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, where friends may call for one hour prior to services. Calling also on Tuesday from 4-8pm in the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
